City of Hammond Major Street Plan
BKI was retained to develop a major street plan for the city of Hammond, LA. This process included an analysis of existing conditions, as well as a review of future changes in land use and population.
The future roadway network recommends additions to the system of arterials and collectors to accommodate the anticipated long –term demands. BKI managed data collection of roadway traffic volumes and peak-hour traffic volumes at high-demand locations. In addition, BKI collected a series of resource items for the city to use in making amendments to current policies, regulations and procedures.
The general community was engaged in the process through a community open house meeting, community attitude survey on transportation issues and follow-up public hearing.
LADOTD Submerged Street Restoration Program Management
BKI was a member of the Program Management team to manage a $150 million street reconstruction Phase 1 program for storm damaged major streets in the City of New Orleans, following Hurricane Katrina.
This program was funded by the FHWA and the LADOTD was the local sponsor. BKI’s role was to provide design oversight, quality control of all design plans, field investigations to identify limits of damages and construction resident inspection services.
Design oversight included review of each design firms preliminary and final plans for conformance with LADOTD design criteria.
Full time construction inspection services were provided by BKI’s staff of LADOTD certified asphalt pavement inspectors and support staff.
City of New Orleans Flood & Gordon Streets Improvements
BKI was contracted by the City of New Orleans to construct new concrete or asphalt pavement with new curbs (or curb and gutter), base course, geotextile and geogrid.
BKI was also in charge of the installation/replacement of drain lines, water lines, and sewer lines; construction of new sidewalks, driveways and handicap ramps, and all work incidental to the project as shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer in the field.
Total construction cost for this project was $6,000,000.
