Fourth Street Extension Environmental Assessment
BKI was selected by the City of Gretna to conduct an Environmental Assessment of an extension to Fourth Street (LA 18/466).
Fourth Street is one of the oldest Westbank arterial streets paralleling the Mississippi River, offering connections to other major routes that intersect with the Westbank Expressway (US 90) and the Huey P. Long Bridge. Currently, the Fourth Street corridor provides no direct linkage to the Crescent City Connection. As a result, industrial and commercial truck traffic is forced to use the older, residential streets in Gretna which are neither safe nor efficient means of access to the industrial areas along the Mississippi River.
BKI examined all feasible alternatives for establishing a more direct traffic connection between the Gretna industrial riverfront and the Crescent City Connection. The firm was also tasked with providing an alternative that would reduce commercial and industrial truck traffic on residential streets, enhance safety and general mobility in the area by providing an alternative travel corridor, and address the projected growth in activity in the immediate area as a result of ongoing and planned economic expansion and development.
