City Park Traffic and Parking Management Study
New Orleans’ City Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States, covering over 1,400 acres. It houses the New Orleans Museum of Art, four 18-hole golf courses, Tad Gormley Stadium, a large tennis center, picnic areas, sports facilities and an amusement park.
The Park is the oldest and most used in the New Orleans metropolitan area and faced numerous facility expansions and increased use, including increased tourism. The dramatic increase in congestion led the Park management to contract Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to prepare a comprehensive traffic and parking plan.
The plan focused on accommodating parking demand. BKI developed recommendations for new parking facilities, roadway improvements, and methods for reducing the visual impact of new parking and roadway facilities. The parking study included all of the park’s facilities.
