Phenix City GIS Data Conversion
Phenix City needed to convert existing utility data, which was in a CAD format, to the GIS for maintenance and then a procedure or process to convert parcel and utility data back from the GIS to a CAD format to meet outside engineer requests for City information. First, BKI converted water and sewer utility data from many different CAD data sources to an SDE geodatabase format. Part of the conversion process included adjusting the utility data to overlay onto aerial photography as well as snap to various feature locations collected using GPS technology. BKI also developed geometric networks for both the water and sewer systems and validated connectivity throughout each system. Boundary data was corrected to match the parcel boundary data and developed as polygon features from the original CAD data. Then, BKI developed procedures to obtain periodic updates of parcel data from Russell and Lee counties. Fianlly, BKI developed procedures to convert the parcel data, water data, and sewer data from the GIS into a CAD format.
