Algiers Wastewater Treatment Plant

Algiers Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent PS, Headworks, Clarifiers & Trickling Filter Upgrade

BKI provided design and construction administration, including resident inspection, for the expansion of the existing wastewater plant. Project included construction of a new, 50-MGD effluent pumping station and force main discharging into the Mississippi River with a new 50-MGD headworks facility, primary and secondary clarifiers, and trickling filter to effectively handle the peak flow into the existing plant during periods of heavy infiltration. Construction of the discharge system included a sheet pile dolphin system to protect the piping from potential damage from passing ships in the Mississippi River. The headworks facility consisted of a pile-supported, reinforced concrete structure with automatic climber screen trash rakes and cast-iron sluice gates for control of flow-through in the system. The primary clarifier is a 120' diameter pile-supported reinforced concrete tank to increase the treatment capacity of the system. The project also added two 100-foot secondary clarifiers and rebuilt the existing trickling filter with new tank walls.
