Drainage Pumping Stations No. 6 & 7

BKI was selected to provide the design and construction administration of two new 1,000-cfs storm drainage pumping stations on the 40 Arpent Canal levee in St. Bernard Parish. Pump Station No. 6 was an addition to the existing Ddrainage Pump Station No. 6, whicle Pump Station No. 7 is a new facility built on the existing levee. Each project included design of a concrete sump and pile-supported pump foundation, steel grate trash racks with automatic trash rakes, three diesel driven vertical lift stormwater pumps (330-cfs each) including right angle gears, steel discharge tubes, pump house superstructure including overhead travelling crane, emergency power generator, concrete floodwalls and levees, and construction cofferdams. Design included analysis of lateral loads on floodwalls and pump station structure from storm surges and hurricane velocity wind conditions. Construction administration and full-time resident inspection services during the construction phase were provided by BKI.
