I-10 at Williams Blvd. Interchange
BKI was contracted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to design the directional interchange of a major arterial boulevard with I-10, including elevated structures. BKI provided hydraulic analysis of seven canal bridges, topographic survey coordination, and preliminary and final plans and specifications. BKI designed two new elevated directional ramps to replace the obsolete diamond interchange at this location. One ramp provides a direct connection between south-bound Williams Blvd. and east-bound I-10. The other directional ramp splits to provide a direct connection from west-bound I-10 to south-bound Williams Blvd. and to 32nd St. The elevated ramp design included AASHTO concrete girder spans and curved steel-plate girder spans. Grade roadway improvements included realigning the six-lane Williams Blvd. through this interchange, aligning new at-grade ramps, making improvements to several intersections, and designing traffic signalization for three new locations to control traffic flow. Signal design included synchronizing the new and existing controls at Williams Blvd. and Veterans Blvd. and 32nd St.
