West Shore Hurricane Protection Feasibility Study

The West Shore Project is to provide hurricane protection to existing development in the LaPlace - Reserve - Garyville area and allow for projected future development. Protection will be provided from the west guide levee of the Bonnet Carre Floodway westward through the LaPlace area to Maurepas Diversion Levee, and will include protection of portions of I-10, I-55, and US 51, designated hurricane evacuation routes for this area and the New Orleans Metropolitan area. The Pontchartrain Levee District (PLD), St. John the Bapist, and the Corps of Engineers are working to finalize a levee alignment acceptable to all parties so that the Feasibility Study Report and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) can be finalized and submitted for approval to the Corps higer authorities for approval. BKI's work involves development of a third levee alignment that will be acceptable to all parties.
