Arabi Terminal Rehabilitation of Dock No. 1
BKI was selected by the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District to provide architectural and engineering services for the design of renovations to the existing Dock No. 1 at the Arabi Terminal. Project includes rehabilitation of a 90-year-old dock apron and warehouse to increase load capacity and provide new warehouse facilities. Design features consist of a complete new foundation and deck system to increase the load carrying capacity of the dock apron and warehouse floor to meet modern port requirements, including an adequate setback from the wharf shed to the dock edge for material handling operations. A warehouse facility was provided on the dock apron for covered storage of cargo with a rail siding adjacent to the warehouse for loading general cargo into rail cars. BKI has provided both design and construction administration services for this project as well as assisting in obtaining all necessary permits from the Corps of Engineers and other regulatory agencies.
