Alabo Street Terminal Improvements Wharf Expansion

Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. was contracted by the Port of New Orleans to prepare plans, specifications and estimates for upgrades to the Alabo Wharf Terminal on the Mississippi River. The scope of work included new upstream and downstream wharf extensions to allow berthing two ships at the Alabo Terminal instead of the present capacity for a single berth. Demolition of the old Charbonnet Wharf was required to make space for the upriver wharf extension.

Repairs to the railroad include new ballast and replacement cross ties and realignment of the existing steel rails serving the riverfront transit shed and wharf apron with rail service. Repairs to the transit shed include complete new metal roofing and siding, replacing all interior lighting and new roll-up doors for the existing transit shed warehouse. A complete code analysis was performed to meet the current IBC Code and for wind speeds of 130 mph.
