Williams Blvd. Boat Launch

The Williams Boulevard Boat Launch is one of only two access points to Lake Pontchartrain in Jefferson Parish. With a population of 270,000 (in 1990), the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish has a high demand for recreational facilities.

The City of Kenner commissioned BKI to apply for federal funding for the design and preparation of construction plans and specifications to retain and increase the capacity of the Williams Boulevard Boat Launch as part of the larger Williams Boulevard Recreation Area Master Plan. The project objective was to expand recreational access to Lake Pontchartrain for boaters by increasing the number of launch ramps and improving car and trailer parking at the site.

The project consisted of the construction of four new concrete boat ramps (each built to accommodate two boats at once), five wood timber piers, a wood timber dock and an overlook shelter. BKI was responsible for developing preliminary design and cost estimates, federal funding application, design development and final design, bidding documents, award recommendation and periodic inspection of the construction.

The construction cost for this boat launch and associated facilities was approximately $500,000.
