West End Park Improvements

BKI was selected by the City of New Orleans for planning and providing design improvements to a 20-acre urban, waterfront park originally developed in the early 1900's.

BKI developed park improvement plans that restored the existing historical facilities, provided new shelters, defined new park entrances (connected by pedestrian walks to new sculptural art display areas), and new park facilities.

Restoration elements consisted of six existing historical shelters and the historic lagoon stone bridge.

New features included two shelters and one major group picnic pavilion; circular arbor and sitting areas around the fountain; pedestrian walks and decorative colored entry paving; sculptural metal benches depicting birds and fish; drinking fountains and hose bibs; site lighting; site grading and drainage inlets; and park signs and dedication plaques.

Design plans included preservation of the historical Diamond Fountain; landscaping and oak tree fertilization, and lagoon bank stabilization and drainage controls.

The total construction cost for this project was $845,000.
