Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc.
(BKI) was contracted by the newly
established St. Bernard Port, Harbor, and
Terminal District to provide initial
guidance through the development of a
start-up program. These initial services
were provided during the 12-18 months
before the Master Plan of Development for
the Port District was prepared.
The study emphasized the
identification of short-term opportunities that
could be developed within a year or two.
The resulting document was a
short-term development program, in which BKI
recommended that the Port focus its efforts on
support of economic development projects throughout
the Parish while acquiring land at strategic
locations on the Mississippi River for future port
development.
In accordance with these
goals, BKI also recommended that the Board of
Commissioners produce promotional materials and
initiate contacts with industries that had been
identified as the Port's potential clients, while
coordinating the orderly development of available
port and industrial land with parish landowners.
