Jazzland/Sixflags Theme Park Traffic Operations

Ogden Energy Group, Inc. retained Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to analyze the impact of their 140-acre Jazzland theme park on local traffic and to make recommendations for minimizing that impact.

The theme park, located on formerly vacant land in suburban New Orleans, will bring an estimated 1.4 million visitors a year to what had been a lightly developed, residential area. BKI analyzed current traffic patterns, short-term and long-term Jazzland attendance and employment forecasts, and changes resulting from the potential development of adjacent acreage based on stimulus created by the initial Jazzland investment. Based on this analysis, BKI made recommendations on signalization, roadway improvements, and site-specific entry controls.

After completing the traffic impact analysis, BKI was retained by Ogden to examine in more detail the need for traffic signals at specific intersections. BKI used the methodology established by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) from the US Department of Transportation and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to establish the need for signals at the intersection of Jazzland's main driveway and Lake Forest Boulevard and at the intersection of Lake Forest Boulevard and I-510.
