New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor Expansion
& Improvements

The Municipal Yacht Harbor Management Corporation selected Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to prepare conceptual plans and a preliminary engineering analysis for a 300-slip expansion and renovation to the deteriorating 485-slip Municipal Yacht Harbor.

In an effort to help the Management Corporation fund the improvements, BKI applied for and obtained a loan from the Coastal Energy Impact Program. As part of the application for the loan, BKI prepared an environmental impact assessment of project alternatives and examined the expanded facility's market potential.

After obtaining the loan for the Municipal Yacht Harbor Management Corporation, BKI designed the expansion and renovation. The design included a new layout for the existing portion of the marina; replacement of deteriorating catwalks, pilings, and piers; dredging of the harbor; a new North pier; utilities, including water and a sewerage pump-out facility; boat houses; concrete rip-rap jetties; and sheet pile bulkheads. BKI also prepared and coordinated all State and Federal permits, including a Corps of Engineers Section 404 permit and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and Department of Environmental Quality permits for construction of the harbor.
