Gulf Coast High Speed Rail Corridor Studies

In an effort to improve speed and capacity on the rail route used by Amtrak's Crescent between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Meridian, Mississippi, Amtrak, through the Southern Rapid Rail Transit Commission, retained Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to evaluate alternative improvements. The route, which is a nationally designated High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor, uses Norfolk Southern tracks.

Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. is evaluating all track, signal and terminal facilities on the route in order to identify and conceptually develop improvements that will result in travel-time savings, increases in average and top speeds, and capacity improvements. Since any improvements must work to the benefit of both Amtrak andNorfolk Southern trains, cooperation with Norfolk Southern is an essential part of the project.
