East Jefferson General Hospital Traffic & Parking Study

East Jefferson General Hospital is a regional medical center consisting of the hospital, medical office buildings and parking facilities on a 25-acre campus.

The hospital's plan to add 236,900 square feet of medical service space and 1,611 parking spaces in two new parking garages had the potential to increase traffic volume in the surrounding residential neighborhood and to cause traffic problems on the hospital campus. BKI was retained to examine the hospital's needs and to make recommendations to improve hospital access while decreasing the impact on neighborhood streets.

BKI documented existing traffic volumes and patterns, analyzed current facility demands, forecasted future volumes and demands based on the proposed expansion, and recommended several site access changes, including improving signage to delineate employee and patient parking areas, constructing additional driveways, creating directional flow around existing buildings and to garage entrance/exits, and constructing turn and deceleration lanes.
