As part of the New Orleans Regional Planning
Commission’s effort to relieve congestion, the
commission selected Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to
evaluate multiple transportation improvement
alternatives within a major east-west rail and
roadway corridor in central Jefferson Parish,
Louisiana, to develop a design concept and scope of
investment for one or more locally preferred
alternatives.
BKI provided conceptual design and cost information
for three of the alternatives under review. This
included the application of evaluation criteria,
detailed cost and profile information,
identification of possible impacts on the local
environment, land use, and transportation network.
As part of the analysis, BKI organized and collected
field data on existing traffic conditions, daily
traffic data, and peak-hour intersection counts at
several locations along US Highway 61 in the project
area. BKI also reviewed the assumptions and network
construction within the project area for the
regional transportation model. BKI presented project
findings and collected input from the client and
public as part of the organized community meeting
process.
