Lower Mississippi River Container Terminal Master Plan

Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. (BKI) was retained by the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District to develop the Lower Mississippi River Container Terminal Master Plan.

BKI designed and located a site for the first facility on the Mississippi River dedicated to the intermodal handling and shipping of containerized cargo. The firm’s staff analyzed all aspects of the container trade that could affect a St. Bernard terminal, including future trends in the container shipping industry, the potential market for a St. Bernard facility, available sites in St. Bernard Parish, alternative conceptual designs and cost estimates, short-term and long-term cash flow positions, and alternative implementation strategies.

BKI recommended the continued analysis and planning for a multi-use, intermodal terminal at the project site and that the findings of these studies be incorporated into an overall marketing strategy for the Lower Mississippi River.

BKI also studied the traffic impact the facility would have on the St. Bernard Parish transportation system.
