Bossier City-Dallas/Ft. Worth Passenger Rail Service Preliminary Demand Study

The Southern Rapid Rail Transit Commission (SRRTC), in conjunction with Bossier City, commissioned Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to perform a preliminary marketing study to determine demand for passenger rail service between the Dallas/Fort Worth and Bossier City/Shreveport metropolitan areas. The 230-mile project corridor includes fifteen counties/parishes with a 1990 population of almost 4.5 million.

Even though the Bossier City area has not enjoyed passenger rail service since the 1960s, there are strong social and economic ties to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Many Shreveport and Bossier City residents regularly travel to the Dallas metropolitan area for shopping, business, entertainment or recreation purposes. Conversely, the success of the riverboat gaming industry has made Bossier City a major vacation destination for Texans. BKI examined current travel demand and modal availability in the corridor and developed preliminary ridership forecasts.
