Burk-Kleinpeter,
Inc. (BKI) was contracted by Jefferson Parish to
design and provide construction
administration for an addition of 1,100
cubic feet per second (CFS) to an existing
storm drainage pumping station located on
the Suburban Canal at Lake Pontchartrain.
The project included
design of concrete sump and pile supported
pump foundation, steel grate trash racks,
diesel drive horizontal storm water pump,
concrete formed discharge tube, pump house
superstructure including overhead
traveling crane, emergency power
generator, concrete floodwalls and levees,
and construction cofferdams. The design
included analysis of lateral loads on
floodwalls from storm surges and hurricane
velocity wind conditions on the pump
station structure.
Architectural design
of the pump house provided an
aesthetically pleasing structure to match
the adjacent residential neighborhood.
Construction administration and full-time
resident inspection services during the
construction phase were provided by
BKI.
The construction
cost was approximately $6 million.
