BURK-KLEINPETER,
INC. was contracted by the Alabama State
Docks to design and provide construction
administration and inspection for the
repair, rehabilitation, and renovation of
the Northport Inland Dock Facility in
Northport, Alabama.
The approximately
40-year old dock facility needed
renovation to meet modern dock
requirements.
BKI increased the
load-carrying capacity of the dock from a
10-ton coil to a 40-ton coil by designing
a new foundation and deck system to meet
modern dock requirements for better
material handling.
Rehabilitation of
the dock structure consisted of reinforced
concrete deck supported by reinforced
concrete bent caps poured monolithic,
consisting of 503 cubic yards.
The total
construction cost for this project was
approximately $700,000.
