Burk-Kleinpeter,
Inc. was contracted to provide preliminary
and final design, construction
administration and full time resident
inspection services for a grade separation
structure for the port access road along
Jourdan Road and Almonaster Blvd. across
the CSX railroad in eastern New
Orleans.
The project
included design of concrete AASHTO girder
spans and concrete slab span bridge
structures, concrete pile foundations,
concrete footings, concrete piers and
caps.
The design also
included developing geometric requirements
to provide a grade separation structure
with both horizontal and vertical
clearances to meet railroad requirements
and developing alignments within the
existing corridor to maintain clearance
along existing high voltage electrical
transmission towers. The design provides a
split ramp to serve both the industrial
corridor along Almonaster Blvd. and the
port access along Jourdan Road to the N.O.
Dock Board port facilities and connects
this entire area to US Hwy 90.
The approximate
construction cost was $9.6
million.
