The New Orleans
Sewerage & Water Board selected
Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to design
improvements for the rehabilitation of the
Board's "C" Basin at the 200-MGD
Carrollton Water Treatment Plant. BKI's
plans for the rehabilitation of the
storage basin included new inflow channel,
chemical feeds, baffles and effluent
channel.
The original
structure was constructed nearly 100 years
ago and was being used as a storage basin
for treated potable water. Modifications
of existing storage basins were
incorporated to include new inflow
troughs, chemical feeds, baffles and
effluent troughs to increase chemical
contact time.
BKI provided design
of plans and specifications, construction
administration and full time resident
inspection during construction. The
renovation will redirect flow through the
plant to utilize this basin as a chemical
feed and contact basin with the use of
baffles constructed in the longitudinal
axis to allow proper chemical contact time
while flowing through the
basin.
The total
construction cost was approximately $13
million.
