Burk-Kleinpeter,
Inc. (BKI) was retained by the Louisiana
Department of Transportation &
Development to perform an Environmental
Assessment of the I-10 corridor through
Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. During the
Environmental Assessment,
BKI
studied various alternatives for replacing
the outdated I-10/Causeway Boulevard
cloverleaf interchange with direct and
semi-direct ramps. This study included
line and grade, capacity analysis,
construction sequencing, and cost
estimates of the alternatives.
BKI
provided geometric evaluation of the
selected alternative, a semi-directional
interchange with five new elevated ramps,
realignment of at-grade connector roads,
and modifications to existing bridge
structures. Currently, BKI is preparing
preliminary plans for the new interchange,
including design of at-grade roadways,
drainage improvements, and elevated ramps.
The ramps consist of single and
multi-column bents, curved steel-plate
girders, straight steel-plate girders,
pre-stressed concrete AASHTO girders, and
concrete deck slabs. Upon completion of
preliminary plans, BKI will prepare final
plans, construction sequence, cost
estimates, and special
provisions.
Estimated
construction cost is approximately $40
million.
