The Alabama Department of Transportation selected
Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. (BKI) to provide construction
administration services and resident inspection for
widening and improving two miles of road through a
densely developed residential corridor. The project
included improvements to Rice Valley Road,
Northridge Road, and Academy Drive.
The improvements to Rice Valley Road included
widening sections from two lanes to three and four
lanes and realigning the intersection at Northridge
Road. BKI coordinated the relocation of utilities
located within the narrow right-of-way, and closely
and continuously inspected traffic control and
erosion control due to the proximity of the
improvements to homes in the area.
Total project cost was approximately $5 million
