Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Expansion

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (Ingalls Shipbuilding) contracted Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. to provide a master plan, construction plans and specifications, construction administration and resident inspection for expansion of their West Bank Production Facility for the cruise ship fabrication platform

The project included the 150,000 sq. ft. CSA II Building with 200-ton & 150-ton cranes, the 116,000 sq. ft. Blast/Paint Hall, the Panel Shop with a 100-ton crane, and the 250,000 sq. ft. CCA Outfitting Building with a 30-ton crane.

The project also included new sheetpile bulkheads, relocation of the existing carpentry building, new gantry crane rails for production crews, a new ramp for launching the offshore platforms after landside assembly is complete, and dredge and fill to create approximately 14 acres of new land surface and to improve approximately 13 acres of existing land. The project also included dredging a new dry dock pit.

BKI assisted with preparing the mitigation and environmental permits necessary to secure construction permits from state regulatory agencies and the US Army Corps of Engineers for the shipyard expansion, including conducting an environmental assessment and a wetlands delineation.
