Canal Street Bus Maintenance Facility

Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. (BKI) was contracted by the Regional Transit Authority to provide construction management for a $25 million bus maintenance facility and three-story parking garage.

To prepare the site, BKI oversaw the demolition of the 100-year-old maintenance facility, including salvage of the historical wood truss systems for later re-use. BKI also administered extensive soil remediation for hydrocarbon contamination.

The new facility includes a three-story reinforced structure for ground-level bus maintenance operations and second- and third-floor administration offices and employee parking. Additional structures include a bus vacuum and wash down facility, money counting office, perimeter security fencing and a security guardhouse at the entrance to the complex.

Construction management services consisted of project scheduling with Primavera software, review of shop drawings, preparation of plan changes, review of invoices, construction inspection, and project closeout services.

Construction cost was approximately $22 million.
